Safety Standards for the Unregulated Transport of Petroleum
Unregulated Transport of Petroleum
PILAP has consistently highlighted grave safety concerns before regulators regarding the unregulated transportation of petroleum in Pakistan.
The initiative emphasizes that weak oversight has contributed to fatal accidents, including the 2017 tragedy that resulted in hundreds of deaths. Although the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) introduced safety protocols for petroleum transport vehicles, enforcement of these critical standards has been repeatedly delayed.
In response, PILAP has actively pursued transparency and accountability through Right to Information requests and official correspondence. Its primary objective is to secure immediate compliance with axle load limits and other mandatory safety parameters to prevent further loss of life.
By advocating for stricter implementation of existing laws and regulations, PILAP seeks to reform a dangerous regulatory environment and promote safer petroleum transportation across Pakistan.
