Humanity and Rabies: The Crisis of Stray Dog Management
Violent Killings of Dogs
PILAP has raised legal and public interest concerns regarding the inhumane treatment of stray dogs and the shortage of essential public health resources in Sindh. Through Right to Information requests, PILAP sought transparency from relevant authorities on government funding, existing bylaws, and the policies being followed to manage stray dog populations.
The initiative questioned the use of violent culling methods, including poisoning and shooting, particularly where dogs had already been vaccinated or sterilized. PILAP also highlighted the serious public health risk caused by the shortage of rabies vaccines, which places citizens at risk while failing to address the root causes of the issue.
Through this advocacy, PILAP has urged authorities to adopt humane and evidence-based population control measures, including vaccination, sterilization, shelters, and medical care. The initiative reflects PILAP’s commitment to protecting public health while promoting ethical, lawful, and sustainable solutions over lethal force.
