Urban Planning and Land Use – Abdul Karim v. Nasir Salim Baig and others

PILAP has filed an intervention application in a petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan concerning the proper use of Karachi’s amenity plots. Land that would otherwise be used for schools, hospitals and parks is either lying in disuse or has been illegally transferred, occupied or converted. These illegal acts and omissions on the part of the concerned authorities have destroyed the original Master Plan of the country’s largest city and business and industrial hub. PILAP, in its application, has prayed for the formulation of workable urban planning and development, including the creation of a commission responsible for preparing and implementing a new Master Plan and the development of amenity plots which are currently lying vacant. The August Supreme Court has accepted the application and has issued notices to the relevant government officials.
