Poaching of Wild Animals

What’s at Stake

Poaching of wild animals remains a concern in the mountain regions of Pakistan. District Chitral is home to snow leopards, chakor and partridge, amongst other species of wild animals. Very often, poaching in this area goes unchecked by the concerned authorities who often fail to take appropriate legal action against poaching.

Current Status

PILAP has written RTIs to the Chief Conservator, Wildlife, KPK; the KPK Environment Protection Agency as well as the Ministry of Climate Change inquiring into the measures taken to curb poaching and unlicensed hunting under Provincial laws, including the KPK Environment Protection Act as well as international instruments ratified by Pakistan such as the Convention on Biological Diversity.
