Ehsaas Program

What’s at Stake

The Covid19 pandemic left countless people struggling to make ends meet. While they fought the pandemic, they had the added burden of unemployment brought upon by the rapid spread of the virus. In this regard, the Government’s Ehsaas Program is laudable as it seeks to assist those who lost their jobs during this time. While the program is commendable and reached around 17 million households in 2020, there is concern regarding those individuals and families who do not possess valid CNICs or other Government issued identification documents required to register for the Program. Much like the number of people expected to be left unvaccinated against Covid19 due to the reason of being undocumented by NADRA, similarly countless deserving Pakistanis will remain deprived of the benefits of the Ehsaas Program.

Current Status

PILAP has written a letter to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Ms. Sania Nishtar, advocating her office to take into consideration those individuals and households that are still struggling to survive and who are unable to benefit from the Ehsaas Program only because they do not possess the requisite Government issued documentation, usually through no fault of their own. We urge the office of the SAPM to devise a solution to bring these deserving people into the net of the Ehsaas Program.
