Urban Planning and Development

What’s at Stake

Over the past several years the city of Karachi has been victim to the illegal transference, occupation and conversion of land. These illegalities deprive the city residents of proper basic amenities such as parks, hospitals, schools and residential areas, as well as the fundamental rights of every citizen. The illegal conversions, constructions and lack of proper planning by the relevant authorities have destroyed the original Plan of the largest city of the country, a city that was once renowned as an international cultural hub.

Current Status

PILAP has filed an application before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in order to formulate a plan for workable urban planning and development, including the creation of a commission responsible for preparing and implementing a new master plan and the development of amenity plots which are currently lying vacant. The August Supreme Court has accepted the application and has issued notices to the relevant government officials.
