Oil Tanker Transport Safety

There have been several oil tanker accidents that have occurred over the years in Pakistan. They have resulted in tragedy, causing loss of lives and property. The Ahmedpur Sharqia oil tanker accident that occurred in 2017 was one of the most serious that caused 200 deaths. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has enacted regulations under the OGRA Ordinance that regulate the carriage of oil by road and which require oil marketing companies to abide by certain safety parametres laid therein, including limits on axle loads. The national regulator for oil and gas has been extending the deadline for the observance of these critical safety standards by oil marketing companies.

PILAP has written numerous letters to OGRA advocating for immediate implementation of oil tanker safety regulations to prevent further accidents.
