The main reasons for this catastrophic flooding are blockage of storm-drains caused by dumping of solid waste, and poor urban planning including land reclamation on the banks of natural drains or ‘’nullahs’’ where the passage of rainwater is curtailed. PILAP wrote an RTI to the Planning and Development Department of the Government of Sindh as well as the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board asking about measures taken to ensure effective urban planning to have an effective drainage and sewage system in place, and the policies regarding the same.
