Faulty construction of Islamabad International Airport

What’s at Stake

The relatively freshly constructed Islamabad International Airport suffered considerable damage during the monsoon rains of 2020. Video footage released on the news media showed chunks of the departure lounge ceiling crashing to the ground along with cascades of rainwater forming a large puddle inside the lounge, hence endangering passengers, staff, personnel and other persons present at the location.

Current Status

PILAP wrote an RTI to the Civil Aviation Authority asking about the oversight and due diligence measures taken during the planning and construction phases of the airport to ensure that it met best international practices, the process of vetting and approving the contractors, other safety measures taken by CAA, any action taken against those responsible etc.
