Advance Witholding Tax on Mobile Phone Use

What’s at Stake

In 2020, news reports stated that Cantonment Board Clifton was planning a beach development along a stretch of Seaview Beach in Karachi. No Environmental Impact Assessment necessitating public participation in the process, as required by the law, seemed to have taken place.

Current Status

Given the delicate nature of the environment in the proposed project area, PILAP wrote an RTI to the Sindh Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Cantonment Board Clifton asking why the requisite environmental assessments had not taken place and how the environment was sought to be protected. PILAP has also filed a Writ Petition against Cantonment Board Clifton in which the court has granted a stay against further development. The petition is currently pending before the Sindh High Court.
